Christmas 2017

Winter reimagined

A few years ago Kennadie was sick on Christmas so we did the majority of our present opening the next day once she started to feel better. Last year we spent the entire day slowly opening gifts here and there stopping to play with a new toy or eat breakfast or watch a Christmas movie. We were so slow at opening gifts that we still had gifts left the next day. I joked about it last year saying that it just made our Christmas last that much longer. Well, it has become a new little tradition- we don't let the girls just rip through the presents on Christmas Day (they do that on Christmas Eve with Josh's side of the family!). But we take our time throughout the entire day on Christmas and Kennadie actually really loves doing gifts this way.

We started the holiday season off walking around with Jess and all the kids looking at Christmas lights and visiting Santa. We attended the High School's Christmas concert (one of my favorite things to do around this time of the year) with my mom and Amy and the kids. Santa photo's with the girls and dogs were a success. We played in the snow, slept in the living room by the Christmas tree, watched Kennadie in her 3rd grade Christmas concert, and we baked cookies for co-workers and teachers and the staff at the dogs daycare. I was able to volunteer at Kennadie's school to help her and her class make their gingerbread houses, the lights at Tower Hill were beautiful as usual, and the girls made Christmas ornaments for our tree and for a few family members.

Josh's side of the family came over on Christmas Eve. We had a huge buffet of food, the kids all played and we all hung out and opened gifts together. After everyone left we put the cookies and milk out for Santa, tracked Santa and left out the reindeer food before the girls went to bed.

We woke up to snow on Christmas Day, which we were really excited about! I got up extra early to get our coffee and then we all went downstairs to begin our day and open presents. Later in the day, my parents, Opa and Oma, and Krista and Tim came over for Christmas Dinner and gifts and to just spend the rest of the day together.

We had a wonderful Christmas (the entire Christmas season, really) and a nice long break from work and school. Hope you had a great Christmas, too!
