just begun

Misquamicut beach

It was the perfect backdrop to a summer that's just begun. We only planned this little getaway a day before we went, but these spur of the moment trips often lead us to some of the best moments. An hour and a half after we wanted to leave and one trip back to the house because we forgot something, we finally hit the road to spend the day at the beach. The setting: blue-green ice cold water against the bluest sky with hardly a cloud in sight.

Kennadie and I played it cool and braved the cold water. It really was freezing, but after a few minutes we got used to it...or we just became numb to it. Either way, we laughed and shrieked as our bodies sank lower and lower in the water the deeper we went and each time a wave would crash into us or almost take us out.

We dug in the sand and walked the beach to find shells (however, this beach had more rocks than shells, which we were totally okay with) to add to our collection at home.

Kennadie found what was left of a crab (the shell and a half dangling leg) and chased Nicole with it. Poor Nicole would run away and scream, and as much as I felt bad that Nicole just wasn't into this thing being anywhere near her, it was too funny to make Kennadie stop.

I'm sure there are much better restaurants in the world but I'm so simple when it comes to restaurants that I love. I was first introduced to Margaritaville when Josh and I were vacationing in Florida when we got engaged and I fell in love with the atmosphere. The colorful Adirondack chairs, the live music, and the tropical setting hooked me right away and will always be a special place to me. Lucky for me there's one at Mohegan Sun, where we stayed, and Josh knows me well enough to not even suggest eating anywhere else.

Driving on unfamiliar back roads, music turned up in the car, arcade games, early morning swimming, overeating pancakes and eggs and hash browns and bacon at the breakfast buffet, and late night swims followed by showers and baths in an oversized tub as the sun quickly set in the background made for the perfect start to summer.
