We woke up early Christmas morning to about 60 degree weather, which is really rare for this time of year here. It was really nice for us though because this year we put our tree out in the sunroom and it's not insulated so between the warm weather and the fireplace heater out there it was perfect. I did my usual Christmas morning routine and got coffee and lit candles and turned on the Christmas lights and then the girls woke up and we all went downstairs and started opening our stockings. Josh made a cinnamon roll french toast breakfast and the girls played with a few toys from their stocking until breakfast. After breakfast we opened a few gifts and then my parents, oma and opa, krista and tim all came over. We all ate and talked and hung out and everyone exchanged gifts and we all watched the girls open their gifts. After krista ans tim left to have Christmas with his family, everyone else stayed here and we had a big dinner with ham and lasagna and appetizers ans desserts. Since everyone was here most of the day we decided to save the majority of our gifts for the next day so we basically had two days of Christmas. It was actually really nice because we all took our time this year and watched each other open gifts and the girls had a chance to stop and play with their gifts as we went along. Nothing was rushed and instead of it being over on the 25th we got to enjoy an extra day of opening and playing with gifts and eating and lounging around and just spending good time together.
This year I made a conscious effort to really soak it all in and be present and enjoy the time. my family came over earlier than I thought they were going to and I freaked for a minute- sometimes if things don't go as planned I can become a bit dramatic. Once I got my shit together and remembered that this, them, my family, the people I love the most were here and healthy I quickly changed my mood. It didn't matter if we were going to do gifts the next day instead or that things were a little different than I had thought, the only truly important thing that mattered was that they were all there. Christmas is my favorite time of the year and looking around my house full of family I couldn't have been happier or felt more thankful for all of them. I think this was one of my favorite Christmases so far- everyone happy and healthy and together, being surrounded by the people I love the most and it was all so relaxed and just so nice.
