christmas 2014

The best part of Christmas for me is the kids. We have four little ones between our family and Jess's family and it's just so much fun. This was Kennadie's first Christmas as a big sister and Nicole's first Christmas with us and it was definitely a great one.

Josh's side of the family came over for Christmas Eve where we ate a ton of food and the kids played and we all exchanged gifts. After everyone left we put Nicole down to bed because she was so tired and we took Kennadie outside to leave reindeer food and cookies and carrots and milk. After both girls were asleep Josh and I wrapped all the presents while Home Alone played in the background on our TV. We left the silly putty out (one of our little traditions) and relaxed the rest of the evening.

I love waking up earlier than everyone else on Christmas morning to turn on the lights and get coffee and take it all in but we woke up a little later than I would have liked this year so I quickly blew up some red and green balloons (another little tradition) left them out for the girls, threw the sticky buns in the oven, and started the morning off with our coffee from Dunkins before the girls came downstairs.

I did what felt right this year as far as taking pictures go and I only took photos with my iPhone. It's been a while since I have taken out my camera and I didn't want to be fidgeting around with settings. I videoed the girls coming down the stairs and seeing the presents under the tree and then they opened their stockings and we all ate sticky buns for breakfast. We spent the rest of the morning opening gifts and putting toys together and playing. Thankfully, Oma came home from the hospital Christmas morning so we went down to my parents' house in the afternoon to spend the rest of the day with my side of the family opening gifts and eating Christmas dinner and desserts. Later that evening once we got home Nicole went to bed and we let Kennadie stay up late to help Josh and I open our gifts to each other since we hadn't even had time to do that during the day. Josh surprised me with Kenny Chesney sandbar tickets...seriously best husband ever!

I felt so, so lucky to have spent Christmas with Opa and Oma and all of our family and a few days before with our friends. Feeling grateful and full.
