Our beloved cat, Dallas left us on Monday. It happened so fast and was very unexpected. Our home feels empty, a piece of our family is missing, our hearts are heavy.
Last night, we went back to Tufts to pick up his ashes and the paw print ornament they made for us for our Christmas tree. Every year, his special spot was under the tree. Before I scooped him up in a blanket to rush him to Tufts, he was under the tree. That Sunday night, I never thought he wasn't going to come back home.
We found Dallas seven years ago as a stray and he immediately stole our hearts and was a fighter from the beginning. He had broken ribs, a horrible infection on his toe that needed amputation, broke his leg, and was given a death sentence numerous times by vets over the years because of a tumor on his jaw. We never gave up on him and he fought through it all and he never once showed us anything but love and happiness. He taught us so much. He loved life, loved his family, loved us unconditionally, loved his food and cuddling and belly rubs, and loved his home.
Christmas time this year hasn't been the same but we are working through it. We love and miss him like crazy and he will never be forgotten.
