keep your head up

She constantly talked about taking a dance class.

"Just like a princess, mommy."

She has been in a gymnastics class since she was 18 months old & since they offer a dance/gymnastics combo, we signed her up around her 3rd birthday.

Each week as her class practiced for the dance recital, the other kids tapped their toes off beat to the music while she froze & stood still.

Her head tucked down into her left shoulder as she nervously twirled the ends of her dark blonde hair.

Her lips barely moved as the rest of her class bellowed out the words to their dance song, “This Land is Your Land”.

Before she went on stage, I encouraged her to sing as loudly as she does when she is in the comfort of her own home.

I know she can do this.

The music started. I pulled out the camera & video recorder.

Confidently, she tapped her white ballet slippers on that stage.

Sitting 5 rows from the stage, I could hear her voice singing along.

Her head held high.

My heart melted.

I couldn’t have been more proud of her.

I could tell she was proud of herself for doing it too.
